Russia is about to join World Trade Organization in 2006. Talks on Russia's proposed membership of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have been "making good progress" say those behind the negotiations.

President Putin said at a news conference at 31.01.2006 that as a whole Russia intend to join the World Trade Organization, but it is going to do this only under conditions that are favourable to it and based on agreements within the usual process by which countries accede to this international economic trade organization. Today the main problem is resolving the issues with the United States.
